Approval for the speedos in Germany:
Motorcycle speedos don't have an e-mark or a vehicle type approval.
This speedo can be used for motorcycles, that had a homologation performed by the federal office for motor traffic (KBA) according to german right in the late 90s. ( top speed up to 160 km/h, original speedo K-value 1,4 )
The approval for newer motorcycles, that had a homologation according to the EG right, depends on the discretion of the inspector. (TÜV, Dekra, etc.)
The determantion of the K-value - in case the K-value of the speedo is unknown:
- Turn the wheel 10 times and count the rotations of the square of the speedo wire.
- K = the amount of the rotations from the square of the speedometer cable multiplied by 10,
- divided by the wheel circumference in cm
- K = 10 x X : Y
X = amount of rotations
Y = circumference of the wheel in cm
